Oops, my hand slipped.
Ohhh boy.... where the hell do I even begin?

Essentially, I'm writing this journal today as an open apology to everyone. To my friends, and my few remaining fans or followers, I just want to write this to get some crap off my chest publicly as to why I haven't really been around much since around the last year or so. Around September'ish of last year I ended up slowly taking steps away from art and doing stuff in general online and socially. Mostly at the time it was because my grades were slipping and I ended up going full swing into taking as many college courses as I could. That accompanied with having a job most weeks I'd get maybe an hour or so of downtime for myself to work on art. Another part was just I was genuinely getting burnt out at the time. I had told myself towards the end of 2014 when me and my friends at Everfree Network were going to part ways that I would finally get back into focusing on just making art for myself again. I ended up joining two other convention staffs for a few different spots and stayed in the constant work mode. Now don't get me wrong, while it was work I did learn a shit ton and I did meet some people on a certain team that I still consider family. I think after I came back from my last convention in 2015 I just realized how much little time I had actually put into my art here for people who were still hoping I would return. On top of it all I know I had some people that were patiently waiting for me to get some downtime for me to get around to actually working on some art for them as well.

So when 2016 started and I had like a week or two in between college semesters I tried getting back into an art groove again. My biggest problem was that nothing I was making genuinely didn't feel good enough for me. I was basically in a horrible art block and ended up getting to a point where I almost wanted to give up. I was frustrated that even though I was able to fart out a few things for some horse conventions that looked decent, that I still wasn't able to get myself to make something out of my own free will that I liked. So I tried most of my usual methods to get myself out of an art block and still nothing was working.

Which brings me to my next point. I really do not want to get into too much detail, mostly because the only people who fully know it are the only ones I want to fully know about it. I'm gonna stop sugarcoating things and just tell everyone I was dealing with mild depression. I'm not sure where or when it exactly started, but somehow it was causing me problems. Most people who follow me over on Twitter may have noticed I might have been a bit more moody this year, and looking back at some things I did or said WOAH MAN I WAS GOING THROUGH SOME ISSUES. This is just where I wanna say I'm deeply sorry if I sort of fell out of contact socially with some friends. There's really not an easy way for me to explain it, I just couldn't physically or mentally get myself to want to interact socially with other people. Regardless, I did seek help and it did eventually work for me. My only advice to anyone dealing with depression would be to seek help. Don't be like me and refuse to seek it cause you don't have a desire for others to try and help. My opinion is that I'm still sort of dealing with it, but I'd say I'm doing a hell of a lot better than I was months ago.

On top of all of this, earlier this year one of my grandparent's health started to decline at a horrible rapid rate. The biggest problem was that she wasn't even that old. It was a huge shock to me and my family and its still effecting us to this very day. It goes w/o saying, but obviously family will come first over horse fandom things. To things I may have dropped the ball on in the last few months since that happened I am sincerely sorry again. The only reason why I'm publicly talking about this particular situation is that her health is still declining rapidly. If there is for any reason in the future where I basically go black from the internet and I'm not online for a couple of weeks, just understand I myself am okay. I might just have some urgent family issues to attend.

So to put things simply as a whole, 2016 has been a messed up year for me. I'm almost 100% certain the ways I may have acted, things I might have said, or just my lack of being around has caused some people to leave. I just wanted to put this out there to say that basically, I'm sorry for not really being around and possibly acting like an asshole. I'm going to try to bite my tongue on more things in the fandom and the world in general and just go back to being a chill dude who uploads some art every now and then.

I don't really want to make any promises as to when I'll upload some new art again. I'm not leaving horses by any means, but I may upload something different every now and then under this alias as I've done a number of times before. I have been working on some new stuff and things have slowly been improving again, as some of you might have seen my other recent journals.

Oh, hi.

Finally on my horridly short 1 month Summer break from college. Had to practice drawing again cause I got a little rusty from not drawing in a few weeks. Trying to hammer out some new stuff again, I promise!

In the mean time, checkout this collab thing I did with another horse wallpaper artist! While I don't fart out as many wallpapers as I used to :iconadrianimpalamata:AdrianImpalaMata makes some pretty cool stuff. Go check him out and drop him some favorites!

Hey Horse Fam!

I'm horribly inactive here. This will probably continue cause I really don't like to use deviant art all that much anymore to upload my stuff. I'm not going to completely give up deviant art, its just a pain to share sketches or fun doodles I toss together since I make a couple almost every week. So I've revived my other tumblr blog, mostly cause I was finally able to secure the kibbie name, BUT HEY WHO CARES IM SHARING MORE ART FOR YOU TO RUB YOUR EYEBALLS ON. So yeah, follow me there if you want to see EVERYTHING horse relative (and sometimes not) that I make.

Archie - Your Life by KibbieTheGreat

So at the beginning of 2015 I got poked by Archie to lend him a hand on some cover artwork. He is a cool dude to work with and he has a lot of passion for his craft. He wanted me to make some more artwork for him, but at the time he was having issues with his label that he was with. It's all good though, I had told him eventually when I get some more downtime and the time is right with him again that I'd be more than willing to work with him again. He was cool enough to even let me name one of his later tracks "Main Street" since I was giving him feedback throughout a majority of that track whilst he was producing it.

Garnika - Generic Banner by KibbieTheGreat

I also lent a hand to Garnika on some promotional artwork as well in the spring. I've been friends with Garnika for quite awhile, so making stuff for him is always fun! I'm really proud of this dude and how far he has come over the last year. He has a lot of passion for his craft and is slowly beginning to make it in the EDM/DJ scene. Probably the most fun thing to work with him on this year was Club Luna again, but I'll go into more detail on that later.

The Spring

Pretty much everything after this was when I started to become a lot more quiet, at least on deviant art, with uploading stuff like crazy. So Fall of 2014 I was taken into the BronyCon Design Team and they had gotten me back into Illustrator for the first time in ages. Being around so many talented people on a weekly basis making kickass art made me feel like I should step my game up a little more as well. Over the course of a majority of 2015 I picked up drawing. Now still to this day I can't say it's the best, hence why you probably haven't seen many of my drawings yet. It started out with making fake cities and just some background artwork which eventually progressed into making characters for said backgrounds. I ended up getting really experimental with it under a different alias I was using on behance for awhile. It was definitely a different medium than I was normally used to with just mostly using Photoshop for years to make photomanipulations or some logo designs. While I can't name everyone who helped me with lots of tips and advice I can say that a majority of it came from my friends on the BronyCon Design Team. There were quite a lot of people who give me tips outside of that staff and I'm still thankful for it, but the people I work with at BronyCon basically taught me from the ground up with it. Present day now, my drawing is still progressing but just not as fast as it had in 2015. Most of that is due to not having as much free time lately and just because I'm probably too hard on myself to upload something I consider imperfect. I'm on the fence right now of making a new tumblr blog or something where I just share random sketches to get me pushed back into drawing more and not necessarily being afraid of uploading something that looks bad. I'll more than likely upload another journal here if I end up doing that!

The Summer

Shirts now up for sale on TeePublic! by KibbieTheGreat

Ohh man Summer was pretty crazy this year. I ended up opening up a shop on teepublic and uploaded a few shirt designs. It was an easy outlet for me to share something that I regularly do outside of the pony fandom with my freelance work. I never got around to making more after those few, but I'll probably end up adding some new designs to it soon!

Sleepy Kibbie by KibbieTheGreat

BronyCon 2015

Now I won't retype out the entirety of my fun experience at this con, since I already typed it out in an already existing journal down below.

BronyCon 2015 ReviewDamn son, where'd you get all these horses from?
So, I had an awesome time at BronyCon 2015! This convention was hella fun and I saw a lot of my friends/fans in Baltimore. Signing up to work with the BronyCon Design Team has probably been one of, if not, the best group I've worked with to date in this fandom.
So I think I'll talk a little bit about the Design Team first, since that's where my journey started with this year's BronyCon. It's this little branch of their massive staff that is composed of 12 members, all who are absolutely amazing with art/design/coding. I had made wallpapers for the previous few BronyCon's, but it wasn't until I went last year and was pressured by a bunch of musicians and friends to apply to their staff. I was really nervous, cause I was going into a staff that for the most part required drawing the convention mascots in various scenes. I slapped together a fandom portfolio of all the groups I had worked with in this fand

I will talk a little more about my vending experience though since that was something I don't think I really touched on much.

KibbieTheGreat @ BronyCon 2015 by KibbieTheGreat

So obviously I had picked up drawing early in 2015. A few of my friends on the BronyCon staff had pestered me about trying my hand at vending for the first time. Not gonna lie, I actually turned them down at least 3 or 4 times before finally saying yes. I had just picked up drawing with the applications were open and I honestly wasn't even sure if people would buy my stuff at the time. So I had tossed together a demo of the poster series I ended up making and sent it off to see how some of the staff and a few of my close friends felt about it. Needless to say the response from everyone was a resounding "HOLY SHIT I WANT THIS" sort of deal. Now while I wouldn't recommend to someone to never ever pick up drawing in about 3-4 months, fart out 6 posters, and make some promo art advertising that you'll be vending at the biggest pony convention in the world, it was quite fun. I'm still not entirely happy with how some of the posters turned out, but I ended up making all the posters within like a week and the prints arrived like a few days before the convention happened haha. The worst part is I really didn't advertise it much until shortly before the convention, in the above image that it probably the only thing I really put out there. I sketched out my oc last minute waving and tossed it on the vendor map with a preview of my posters and uploaded it here and on twitter and sorta called it a day. I wasn't sure I was gonna make a lot of money off of the table and going into the con I remember telling vendor relations that I'd be happy if I broke even. If anything I was just more looking forward to meeting some fans in person and letting them get their hands on some exclusive art. Well, I ended up selling out of prints at the convention lmao. I was selling so much the first day that I literally had nearby friends throwing their shoes at me to sell my posters for higher prices so I wouldn't sell out in the first day haha. So yeah I might not have sold as large of a quantity as some other vendors in that hall, but hey I was selling mine for at least like 2 times the amount they were selling posters for at those dimension sizes. It was a very good thing too, a majority of those profits went towards paying off two semesters of my college and it even paid for my plane ticket to Baltimore! Still to this day I can't thank everyone enough for those who stopped by and bought a print. Really the only thing I can give them a little extra is that I made those posters exclusively for BronyCon 2015 and I won't make them for another convention again. If they are ever to resurface, they will go to a charity auction with an unreleased Celestia and Luna variant of that series that I actually haven't shared to anyone except two people in the world.

Equestria LA 2015

So one thing I just now realized I forgot to upload here was my experience at Equestria LA this year. The Summer was a pretty big blur for me since Equestria LA happened about a month after BronyCon did. I really didn't have much downtime in between. So I'll sorta talk lightly about some art I made for them and a few other things as well.

I've been in the works with Equestria LA 2015 for quite awhile now. The two girls who brought it back actually ended up initially bringing it up to me while I was at BronyCon 2014. It was a little different for me though, mostly cause they were the first convention that initially asked me to do something besides just artwork for once. They wanted me work with Garnika on running the rave/live music at their con. I was totally down for it since Garnika is a cool dude to work with and I already had plenty of experiences with musicians in the pony fandom anyway. I still did some artwork for them here and there, like the first announcement of them returning as seen above. This con was rather different to work with overall though. A majority of that reason was due to the fact that a majority of that staff all lived local and I was close friends with a majority of them. The other point being that they wanted to be a "My Little Pony Fan Convention" and not just a "Brony Convention". Now before that goes and rustles any jimmies, its totally not in the way that some people think. The girl who ended up taking over the con, and ultimately making it a hell of a lot better, has been a fan of My Little Pony since the earlier generations before G4. She has a huge MLP toy collection and she attends My Little Pony Toy Conventions with fans that have been fans of MLP since wayyyy before the Brony fandom. It was cool, because this con was geared more towards being a lot more about family fun and a lot of fun for the kids, the actual show demographic. We still had all the same stuff a Brony convention would have, just with other little things like bringing in the original creator of My Little Pony to talk about some of the original stuff. The only struggle I had with it was that we couldn't use anything that looked too close to the show style artwork for any promotional art. Other than that, it was an extremely fun little convention that ended up getting a whole lot more attendees than we had originally thought. I'll toss a few different art pieces down below of just a few things I did artwise for them. I don't really upload much convention art anymore as standalone uploads here on deviant art mostly cause I wanna give it to them for their own promotional purposes on their social media accounts.

Here's the sponsor shirt I made for them. It was a lot of fun to draw out then bring it into Illustrator to refine it a lot more. Still wish it could have had color, but it still looks good in black and white.

This was one of the signs I helped with that was used for the vendor hall.

Beverly Hooves - EQLA 2015 TSSSF Exclusive by KibbieTheGreat

Then, probably the most fun thing to work on, the shipfic card I drew out for them. My horse is a sucker for cute blondes.

But yeah, overall it was a solid con.

Everything after EQLA was basically a blur for me as well. Between school and work over the last few months of 2015 I really only had around like 20-40 minutes of time to myself each day. It really did take a punch out of my art as well. I realized that when I sat down over winter break and noticed how rusty I had gotten. That brings me into what I plan on doing in 2016.

In ways I sorta feel mixed about 2015. I did make some more leaps as an artist, but I didn't really share much with all you peeps here on deviant art. Both work and school took a huge chunk out of my free time in 2015 and that is basically what a majority of my year was. It was still okay though considering that I finished up an associates degree this year and I'm now shopping around trying to decide on what 4 year university to transfer to.

Looking onward to 2016

2016 is gonna be a little different for me. I have recently finished up a few pony wallpapers, as seen in one of the above screenshots. I'd like to add my own drawings to them though rather than just use show vectors like I usually used before. Pushing myself to do that will probably push me to draw more again, as I'm not really looking into joining many fandom projects in the new year. Really the only thing I'm tied to is BronyCon and I haven't really been doing a whole lot for them lately anyway. Recently, as some of my twitter followers may have read, I closed out all of my other aliases I had been doing for art. Most of it was just because I cut back and I'm not gonna be doing much freelance artwork anymore due to time constraints. The other part was mostly because I was tired of trying to keep a "non-fandom" alias going outside of this one and trying to keep two different small fanbases happy. I'm not trying to really please anyone with my freelance work as of right now anyway, so it just sorta seemed right to slim all my art back to this one alias. Now while that does mean I'll have more time to draw horses doing dumb things, I will from time to time upload something a little different. Obviously I'm gonna try my hand at releasing some new wallpapers again for the first time in ages and it won't be as often as I used to upload them. I'm gonna try to make a few new shirt designs for my TeePublic shop since people are still buying the old ones and seem to be happy with em. Really the only thing I might be doing out of the norm this year is making a few stupid videos on YouTube. For those who don't know, I did this stupid thing awhile back in 2015 called "Brownies React" with a few close friends. People have always bothered me to do something like that ever since I did a few episode reviews wayyyyy back in the day on Everfree Network. For whatever odd reason people like to hear my smartass comments on twitter on episodes when I watch them and the occasional other stupid things I comment on. My twitter is a horrible place, I still don't know why so many people follow it haha. It's like a live journal of my life mixed in with horrible jokes and stupid memes.

I guess there might be some entertainment value? Regardless, we're having fun making those stupid Brownies React things and might expand upon mostly for our own entertainment value. Really we don't even care if it gets just 100 views, we have more fun making stupid videos like that haha. So whenever my shitty microphone from asia decides to show up, my twitter followers will probably hear more about new stupid review videos.

Other than that, thanks to everyone who still watches me here on deviant art. Thanks to any of my twitter/tumblr followers who took the time to read this. Thanks to all the artists on the BronyCon Design team, to all my friends who worked with me on the Equestria LA staff, thanks to the Brownies React crew for making me laugh when I needed to get my mind off of shit, and thanks to everyone who gave me a lot of advice on drawing this year. You all know who you are I'm just too lazy to type out that many names.

So yeah if I don't respond to notes and other junk just give me a little extra time than usual. I'm finishing up two more commissions when I get back home next week too!

P.S. I scheduled something to automatically upload on Saturday, so keep an eye out.

Damn son, where'd you get all these horses from?

I slapped together a fandom portfolio of all the groups I had worked with in this fandom and a couple of my personal favorite art pieces. They fell in love with it and decided to take me on. As the months went on, they taught me an absurd amount of stuff. The head of design got me back into using Adobe Illustrator for the first time in ages, I learned a lot about branding, and a couple of the artists basically trained me in house on how to draw ponies. For my fans that followed me for awhile, you'll probably know that my art was getting stale earlier last year and I was having problems with numerous art blocks. They are a fantastic group of men and women that I'm proud to say I worked with, and I probably would not have grown as much as an artist this last year without them.

Heading out to Baltimore on a 2600 mile journey

Flying is really fun, only downside is that I work overnights so I had to catch a redeye flight. I snapped a couple of pictures as I flew out of California. I'd say the most boring part was having a 3 hour layover in Phoenix.

It was literally the most boring ass layover ever. All their bars served nothing but shitty ass "Bud Light" and I got yelled at by security for skating on one of the walking escalator things. It was pretty cool when I did fly out of Phoenix at around midnight though, got to watch thunderstorms across America in the middle of the night and saw all sorts of cool flashes and junk.

Arriving in Baltimore at 7am

So landing in Baltimore felt like landing in a different world. We're in a huge drought out where I live, so seeing all sorts of green plants and lakes/rivers everywhere was weird. When I picked up my bags from the baggage claim I finally starting seeing a lot of the hard work that me and my friends had put into signage that was put throughout Baltimore. Riding the light rail was slow and boring, but I did get to watch a homeless guy lick his arm like a cat the entire way.

After 2600+ miles I had finally arrived at the giant triangular built convention center that I hadn't seen in a year. I was able to check into my hotel room where some dinguses had met up with me.

Getting dunkin' donuts with JakeWhyman, TheLightLeavesThee, and DeLoop was fun. I'm deprived of their glorious coffee and donuts since there's none of these donut shops near me.

Registration and badge pickup

Registration was fairly easy from what I had seen. The Design Team even gave me a title without telling me I had one. Most of the rest of that day involved me meeting up with some of the Design Team members for the first time in person. Helped em set up a light of signs in the convention center and they showed me a lot of Baltimore City while running around to local print shops.

Most of the rest of the day after that involved hanging out with BronyCon staff and trying some of their local foods.

Vending at BronyCon 2015

Vending was definitely an experience at BronyCon. Probably because it was my first time ever vending at any convention. After I had picked up drawing some more, some of my friends had kept poking asking if I would finally try my hand at selling some art. I was absolutely amazed at how crazy went over the six different prints I had made. Going into this convention, I was extremely nervous and worried that none of my prints would sell since my usual art isn't what you'd see from the average person selling art prints at a pony convention. When I went into drawing some of the mane six out for posters, I decided to turn an old mobile phone wallpaper I made last summer into a full series. There were people of all ages flocking to my table to buy up prints, and it was fun to talk to each and everyone of em. I even had a few show staff members drop by and compliment me on my art. Probably the best thing that happened was on Saturday when a little kid no older than the age of 8 at least walked up to my table. This little dude was dressed up as Rainbow Dash and he wanted to buy a Pinkie Pie print and a Rainbow Dash print from me, but he got sad when his mom had said he only had enough for one. I ended up asking him what his favorite character was and he talked about Rainbow Dash for at least 5 minutes. It was great to see his face light up when I told him he could take both prints for no charge. He ended up jumping up and down like crazy and said "THANK YOU" at least 100 times haha.

Sales went extremely well. I was told by a few staff members that I was somewhere in the top 10 for most sales overall for art prints out of all the other vendors. You all rock, cause you basically helped me pay for my entire fall semester of college!

The rest of the con experience

Along with vending, the rest of the convention was fun. It was cool seeing how many people loved one of the room signs I had made in the convention center.

One of the nights I was there we had gotten all of the Design Team members that were able to attend the convention together for a dinner. Lots of memories of the last year were shared, and lots of good times were had!

One of the nights, a few people on the Design Team had taught me how to play that silly Twilight Sparkles Secret Shipfic Folder game. Was probably best I figure out how to play, since they snuck me into one of the cards in the BronyCon expansion deck.

When I wasn't hanging out with artists, I was hanging out with a lot of the musicians that were there that I knew. Lots of shenanigans happened with Foozogz and 7th Element.

Probably the best moment at Brony Palooza was being asked by the girl running Brony Palooza told me to run out on stage and make sure that Garnika wouldn't break his skull open from trying to crowd surf. Needless to say, it was a successful crowd surf.

Since he was safe, I shared with him my vast knowledge of memes.

It was fun getting to hang with all you dudes though! You all know who you are, and you all know there's an inner "sus" in all of us. Thanks again for letting me tag along with you guys on Sunday when everyone was fucking tired and hungover haha.

BronyCon overall

The convention overall was amazing. It's obvious that new convention is perfect, and BronyCon had a few small hiccups. But holy shit, I can say this pony convention was damn near perfect. They ended up hitting a little over 10,000 attendees, and became the first My Little Pony fan convention to hit the 5 digit number range. The staff was great, the panels were fun, the music was awesome, and the vendor hall had an amazing selection of stuff to look at. I rate it horse/1O would probably horse again.

Now I just gotta figure out what to do with all this BronyCon swag......

P.S. I still can't believe TheLightLeavesThee is fucking dead

Yoooo! I finally got some shit I'm gonna upload soon. Remaking an old thing from last year. Sorry I've been horribly inactive on here this year. I've been terribly busy with school/work/convention art staffs/learning how to draw. Sometimes I blink and a week goes by pretty much.
Wow guys, I can't even.…

Lol people believed this.

To anyone who hadn’t been able to tell, the whole “KibbieTheMare oc redesign” thing was a joke. Thanks for all the funny comments! Also cheers again to :iconemkay-mlp:Emkay-MLP for lending a hand!

Figured people enjoy that silly thing, and since I haven’t really uploaded much art this year it was something to have a little fun with. Anywho, time to go chillax and play some videogames.

YO! Really, thanks though!

Sorry I haven't been posting much artwork lately. A lot of stuff I've been working on is stuff for conventions that have me locked down under NDA's, so I really can't share any of my recent art with anyone outside of those staffs! I do have a couple of things laying around that I'm hoping to finish sometime this month.

Thanks for sticking through with me during this dry spell of no art!

Let me just push all these empty energy drink cans and cups of coffee off my desk so I can type up a last minute yearly review thing.

So not as much horse relative artwork happened with me this year. Between taking on more college classes, picking up a job, and getting more freelance work outside of this fandom, it was hella busy for me. I still had a good year for the most part, minus some speed bumps here and there. Hit some pretty cool milestones too! Reached 1000 followers on twitter, Reached 60,000 pageviews here on deviantART, and my tumblr imploded with notes from horrible low quality jpg images I uploaded lmao.

Well for starters I designed a whole advertising campaign, branding ideas, and website for a horse convention.

There was this brand new convention that popped up sometime in Fall of 2013, they reached out to me because they said and I quote "We are in massive needs of better looking art for our convention". After I read that message I laughed because obviously my art is horrible and I don't even draw horses, so I looked at their website and saw their-

So needless to say I gave them a huge hand and helped them out a shit ton. Props to Nash, Doktor, Calligraphy, and Pixelkitties for lending a hand when I needed it most (pretty much during college tests and finals, you guys rock for that help!) last year while running the essentially 1 man art staff for that convention haha.

MLP-MSP was a cool convention that happened out in Minnesota. They had a pretty decent number of people attend, and they had a killer live concert from what I was told.

So sometime after December of 2013 in between convention art for MLP-MSP & EFN, I managed to find free time to make art.

And of course this if the first dank wallpaper I crank out in the new year

Delicious Chicken Breast-37,962 pageviews special by KibbieTheGreat

At the time I was still pretty burnt out from the 2013 convention year and with multiple projects for EFN & MLP-MSP. I finally got around to finishing a wallpaper I had started in the first week of January as well. This year I wanted to make more horse art of characters I hadn't really made art of that much.

Somehow I managed to slap this together in a few hours and people went nuts over it. I wanted to make it extremely bright and white to better reflect the character, horrible for some desktops but people still liked it apparently.

The super bright artwork kinda bled over into a song that Emily Jones did with her friends. She reached out to me and asked for some help on some cover art for their song. At the time I had just picked up Illustrator again for the first time in ages, and had managed to crank out a vector of the CMC's (woah yeah! holy crap I do vector and I should probably find time to do it more again haha).

Most of the inspiration for this one actually came from a deck of cards I had sitting on my desk when I made it at the time.

"But what else did you make early on in the year yo???"

Well I managed to finally finish this series I started late in the previous year.

It started out as a timeline cover I tossed together for my own facebook and heavily inspired by :iconparadigm-zero:Paradigm-Zero. People seemed to love it and asked for more, so I decided to make 5 more for the rest of the main characters in the show. It made its rounds on the internet and somehow Andrea Libman ended up wanting something like it for her facebook. I think she's still using the same horrible timeline cover I made her, and I'm super happy that she and many others liked em!

As the weeks went on after that, I wanted to start making different things than I usually make (shitty grunge and bokeh things) to flex my creative muscle a little more. I found an old tube tv in my back garage with some old cruddy quality VHS movies and pulled some inspiration from that on some art.

That fateful night - 40k Pageview Special by KibbieTheGreat

So at the time I hit 40k pageviews on deviantart and wanted to say thanks to my fans, and I tossed this thing together.

Oh boy let me tell you a thing about Evercon, and how fun it was! So after how much stress/drama me and my friends with through over at EFN in the 2013 year, we planned out a week where we could all get together and just hangout and not stress about having to do some livestream or work on some fandom project. We called it Evercon as an extreme pun for making our own convention that nobody outside of the network was invited to. It was probably some of the best times we've had around the network, just hanging out and having fun in SoCal! Most of it consisted of lots of partying, going on random adventures, disneyland, and lots of relaxing.

Manehatten by KibbieTheGreat

Then sometime during Evercon I had a wild idea of just really messing around with something and having no care at all what the outcome was. I ended up finishing it a few weeks after Evercon and this was the outcome.

I also ended up making a follow up wallpaper to the Celestia one I released earlier in the year too. Final Draft and CowboyDave watched me make like half of it and kept yelling something about "WOOOONAAAAAA" in my ear while I worked on it XD

The year kept moving along again and I made some more promotional artwork for MLP-MSP

Prairie Heart by KibbieTheGreat

I caved and made some more horrible grungy artwork again for the first time in a bit.

"Wait so did you even make anything for Everfree Network this year?"

Of course, I started pushing our mascot I made the previous year a bit more this year. I designed some new artwork and branding ideas for EFN's social media accounts to better suit our new feel around the network. I wanted to keep the dark/grey tones the network has always had, while incorporating that bright happy feel with our network mascot, Star Flower, had.

She was always fun to toss in random tweets or comments! Everyone around the network went nuts whenever I used her on something too.

EFN - Tribal Design by KibbieTheGreat

Being the lead artist/designer around the Everfree Network was super fun. They gave me free reign for the most part this year to make whatever I wanted, mostly because me and Nash finished the making the other additions of the site in the previous year. Plus not being so heavily involved in conventions gave me more time to punch out some art for EFN.

Club Luna Doodle Thing by KibbieTheGreat

So Club Luna was this thing that some of my friends were running out where I live. They reached out to me and asked if I could make them some promotional artwork. The event had a lot of musicians that I was already friends with performing, that and my friends were running the event itself.

It was awesome being able to make them some promotional artwork that helped get their name out there!

Also sometime in the midst of this I ended up pushing out one of my favorite art pieces of the year.

Find The Music! by KibbieTheGreat

It's funny, I got the idea for it after seeing some old washed out advertisement that was for some orchestra/opera thing. It was a little different from the normal stuff I had been making.

"A Brony Tale Documentary?"

Oh man is this one a story. For those who hadn't heard or seen this yet, it was a documentary that Brent Hodge (the guy on the left in the photo) made when he followed Ashleigh Ball to the 2012 Winter BronyCon. He also went around the country and did a short little summary on the history of the Brony fandom and highlighted a few fandom people (a lot of them being my friends that he followed too haha).

The film was also being pushed by Morgan Spurlock, the guy who starred in the Supersize Me documentary and Inside Man on CNN.

But how do I tie into all this?

Well, earlier this spring Brent Hodge and Draft reached out to me asking if I could make them some last minute art for their Tribeca Film Festival release. At the time I felt super horrible because I had to turn them down because I was so busy with College finals in the spring at that time. TheShadowStone actually ended up lending them a hand with what they needed. After it was sent off I got a phone call back from Brent Hodge and I guess both him and Morgan Spurlock liked the Tribeca Film oc pony that ShadowStone tossed together last minute. So I felt horrible ever since that happened and I ended up going to the Hollywood premiere they did for the movie. It was awesome to be able to hangout with him in person after all the phone calls! The dude is awesome and he does some killer video work. He told me that still today the thing my girlfriend made is hanging in a wall out in New York in the Tribeca Theater with Brent's signature, Ashleigh Ball's signature, and Morgan Spurlock's signature.

He still found a way to toss me into a promotional ad as well from the Hollywood release too lmao.

I think he snuck in a shot or two of me dancing somewhere in this video as well.

Sometime in the midst of the scorching summer heat, I hid in the confines of my office working on my first serious wallpaper series. This year, quite a few more of my friends from the wallpaper side of the Brony fandom were taking their step out. Most of em were for good reasons, they wanted to move onto bigger and better things outside of the fandom. I'll still support them, as I've also been using a different alias outside of the Brony fandom for quite sometime now for my freelance work. I don't really share any of it here though because I like to keep my two different project names very separate from each other.

Morning Illumination by KibbieTheGreat
Spellbinding Harmony ft. M24Designs by KibbieTheGreat

But anywho, I heard from quite a number of my friends that they were getting comments from people who draw saying "wallpaper artists put no effort into their art" and "all they do is just slap a vector onto a gradient and call it done". Now while this may be the case for the average guy that just wants his shitty artwork onto Equestria Daily, thats not the case for me and most of my friends who had been making wallpapers. This irked me and I made a four piece "generic" alicorn series. This is probably the only artwork I've done under this alias that features some of my own photography resources, my own custom abstract drawings, and a lot of hours of work. I worked on each one for a number of weeks, and even brought in :icontheshadowstone::dev:theshadowstone: and my other close friend :iconm24designs:M24Designs in for some assistance. I really never cared for how many views it got or even if people liked it. It was just satisfying to me to just be able to say for once I legit put in a shit ton of work into my fandom artwork, and had fun with it.

The year sorta kept drifting on from here. I had picked up a job at the time and was just sorta tossing things up as I finished em.

Flutter Trip - VIP - 50k Pageviews by KibbieTheGreat

When I hit 50k pageviews I tossed up a VIP of an old wallpaper I had laying around to say thanks to my fans for the support. I still have a few unreleased ones laying around that I might upload someday.

Trixie The Pony Troll - REDUX by KibbieTheGreat  Sweet Apple Acres by KibbieTheGreat

Convention artwork and art projects for EFN had started to slow up again, which gave me more free time to just mess around in photoshop and finish up my own unfinished projects that had been sitting for awhile.

Okay maybe too much free time haha. I started making more stupid images like this and tweeting em out. People went nuts over em and they gave me a good laugh or two. One of my friends actually pushed me into making a blog just to upload stupid images like this. I'll probably get around to actually using it sometime in the new year where you can find more horrible images like these.

Sometime over the summer I won in some contest that Wolf Beats was hosting

It was based off of which wallpaper got the most likes on their facebook page, and mine was one of em apparently. I felt a little bad too because I only spent like an hour working on it too haha. Shout out to Wolf Beats for sending me a free copy of one of Archie's albums after winning!

Wait what I thought I was done with this stuff since Everfree Network wasn't streaming as much anymore??? Nah, this time BronyCon still reached out to me and asked if I could make them another wallpaper again.

I brought my Shadowstone in again for some assistance with this one to get her name out there a little more, and because its always fun working with her on stuff.

I'm going to BronyCon 2014! by KibbieTheGreat

Now let me tell you a thing or two about how long I've been wanting to attend BronyCon. This year I somehow managed to have just enough money, with assistance of friends as well, to attend. It was extremely fun and I'd recommend that anyone active in the fandom should attend it at least once. It seriously is the most legit convention this fandom has, and they put a bunch of work into it.

I really didn't take too many photos on my phone, it was mostly a blur of all sorts of friends I met for the first time in person. You all know who you are if you're reading this, it was fun hanging out with everyone at BronyCon! Whether it was chasing down the ice cold water guy in Baltimore with BVids/Jhaller/Kryptonlogic, hanging out at the musician's table in the vendor hall, and hanging out at some of the panels. That and having people stopping me every corner I turned because they noticed my badge, you guys literally came out of everywhere haha. I had all sorts of people thank me for making cool stuff to use, and for the other fandom projects and musicians I had made artwork for.

xX720TurntScopeWALLPAPERtrickshotXx by KibbieTheGreat

I swear I'll still keep making more things like this in the future lmao.

Wait did you do anything for horse musicians this year??

Of course, they're always clawing at me for things. I just didn't say yes to as many of em this year.

Then I took my step away from Everfree Network

It was hard to do, it really was. Probably one of the hardest decisions I've had to make in this fandom. This year was rather slow for me around the network, being as how I had already stayed on with the network past the original reasons they had brought me on (which was to help them build the additional parts of their website). I try not to tell people that part of the reason was because of the endless amounts of shit and drama we got from the fandom, but it was a small fraction of the reason why. Most of the reason though was because they were going one direction with the network, and I had no desire to keep going in that direction with them. The network had eaten up so much of my time and pulled me away from most of my own personal projects in the fandom. One day this summer I actually sat down and noticed how little I had improved art wise in the fandom since I had joined them. Don't get me wrong, it was really fun for the most part working with them. They're really not what a good chunk of the fandom tries to shit smear and make them look like. Draft is a down to earth honest guy, and he had legit reasons for running his network the way he did. And no I'm not one of those "draft worshippers" as people have called me in the past. I actually yelled at him quite a number of times and called him stupid for doing some things. He may have overworked/overstressed himself sometimes, but it was just what he liked doing. We did settle all the arguments we ever had, mostly because we're friends and we realized we were both overstressed anytime we fought with each other over something. Working with EFN really opened my eyes on this fandom, and I really got to see how some of the bigger groups in the fandom work behind the scenes away from the public. They really helped get my name out there too. Honestly to anyone that wants to be the next big group/person in the fandom, they can have it. I don't have any desire to stick my hands in another horse media group after EFN, mostly because nobody would probably be as fun to work with as they were. "Horse Fame" is not all what it's hyped up to be, and seeing how some of the "horse famous" people are in the fandom really did make me almost throw up at times.

Be it as what you will say about the Everfree Network, majority of them were really nice people. That's coming from the guy that has worked with Everfree Network, Ponyville Live, multiple conventions, and multiple fandom projects. Did they have a few people along the way that gave them problems? Hell yeah. Every group I've worked with in the fandom has those kinds of people.

I still keep in contact with some of the network staff on almost a daily basis, a good amount of em over there will always be my friends, even when this fandom kicks the bucket some day.

Anyway, that's enough drama llama talk. What the hell did I make after I took my step away?

Well for starters, this happened. After returning from a few week hiatus from the fandom, I worked on finishing this rather relaxed series.

Most of these I had made back in the summer, but went backed and revamped a little bit and actually released them. Being as how it was still fun for me to make, it still rather left a "mehhh" aftertaste.

I finally took my step down from EFN, and few other fandom projects, and I have a shit ton of free time again. The only sad part is the last time I had this much free time I had the huge Equestria Digital group and a bunch of other photoshop/photomanipulation artists to hangout with. Most of those people have since left the fandom, or stopped making artwork. I never really made wallpapers for the favorites and the fame, I made them cause they were fun to make with my friends.

That being said, don't expect a lot of horse wallpapers from me next year.

Yeah I'm sure some people will probably be sad by that, but if I wanna keep making art in this fandom and not get burnt out from it, I gotta start making more things than just silly horse wallpapers. I am seriously flattered and amazed by the amount of people that did start following me because of them. You guys and ladies do all rock!

I've already been flexing my creative muscle and working on things I usually make outside of the fandom.

Generic Brony Shirt #0031 by KibbieTheGreat

Like this rendition I did of that classic "brony" shirt. I can't even begin to tell you all the t-shirts I've made outside of the MLP fandom, but I've never really made any with horses. So probably expect more things like this in the future. I'm not completely done with wallpapers, but it will not be my main focus next year if I do make anything for my deviantart/tumblr. You should probably expect more cover art, posters for charity/conventions, shirts, etc.

Yes I am working with both BronyCon and Equestria LA. I wish I could tell you guys more about what I'm doing with both conventions, but it's still really early in the planning process for both conventions and NDA's do keep me locked down for the most part currently. Really the only thing I think I'm currently allowed to tell anyone in the public about either convention, is that I am working on the design/branding staff for BronyCon next year. I do wanna give shoutouts to Emily, Lauren, and Karen. You girls have been super fun to work with so far! It's nice to finally be around people who make some of the same things I do again!

Other than that there really isn't anything else major planned. I still have a couple of unfinished wallpapers that I might finish and upload next year if I feel like working on them. Just don't expect the 100's of them like in year's past.

Thank You!

Oh yeah, checkout this site for some artwork that you might see from a familiar artist.

I swear I'm not dead!

So yeahhhhhh, been awhile since I tossed up a journal. Just felt like it was time to toss another one up to inform my fans on a few things.

I had a totally baller summer. Had a shit ton of fun at BronyCon and Club Luna! It was super hot where I live, but I picked up a part time job and I work overnights now, so I avoided most of the heat. Chiming in on this though, I started college back up again on top of having this job. Free time kinda comes and goes, so I can't really promise on how many more art things I'll work on for the remainder of this year.

That being said....

I do have a lot of unreleased/unfinished projects sitting around collecting dust. The remainder of this year will probably be just me finishing projects I started over the summer and uploading them as I finish them.

This includes:

  • A couple of collaboration projects
  • Finishing my generic alicorn pone series
  • A mobile phone wallpaper series
  • Another mane six series (as seen in the top image)
  • (Possibly) some new generic pone timeline covers for facebook/twitter
  • Musician fanart
  • 2 more reduxes of some of my old art pieces (that I started last week)
  • Some more MLG PRO TURNTSCOPE things.

I have a bunch of other things that I haven't released too that I didn't list. I can't say when or how fast I'll finish and upload all of these. Mostly because in the past month now I got dragged into working with 2 different pony conventions, and will possibly be working for a 3rd one soon.

Also, I've got some big changes coming around New Year's, but I'll leave it at that for now~

So yeah, I've actually been uploading shit again and I haven't been dead.

Club Luna

Club Luna was off the hook last Friday. It was absolutely awesome to be part of their amazing staff. Already gonna get started on some artwork for the next one sometime this summer as well. It was awesome being able to hangout with some of the EFN crew the day before. Shout outs to Garnika, TAPS, Odyssey, BVids, RobBob, Ohad, Tyler, Cayci, and Kiniro for making it a hell of a lot of fun!

Oh what's this??

So apparently I'm close to 50k pageviews. Huge thanks to all my fans who are still supporting me! I know like majority of my art is horse related, and I don't even really draw them, but the fact that I have my own little fan base still encourages me to keep pumping out new stuff for all of you!

So I'll leave this little screenshot as a teaser until I officially go over 50k pageviews on deviantART.

Until then, if you want to see all of my artwork don't forget to follow me on twitter and on tumblr for all the little doodles and random stuff I might make that doesn't necessarily make it onto my deviantART.

Things like this little doodle below,

Yup yup, I'll be firing up some old art projects that I've had laying around for awhile sometime next week. I'll probably just release things as I finish them for the month of June haha.
